As a content writer, I see ChatGPT as a game-changer that has boosted my performance. But when I hear discussions of AI taking over writing jobs, I can’t help but feel a little bit skeptical, even though I value technological progress. Here I would like to describe how ChatGPT helps me to build email drip campaigns. 

Crafting emails that not only capture attention but also drive conversions requires a delicate balance of creativity and strategy. However, with the introduction of ChatGPT into my workflow, this process has been revolutionised, empowering me to create more engaging and personalised content that resonates with the audience of my clients.

What makes email drip campaigns stand out from usual marketing emails?

An email drip campaign consists of a series of pre-written emails that move email subscribers towards a final conversion point (for example, a purchase). These emails slowly “drip” helpful information out to the reader, stimulating engagement and creating opportunities for conversion.

These campaigns serve as a vital tool for nurturing leads, building relationships, and guiding recipients through the sales funnel by delivering a series of targeted messages over time.

Crafting compelling email content that stands out in a crowded inbox while maintaining consistency across multiple messages requires strategic thinking and high cognitive load. At the same time, generic, one-size-fits-all emails can be an easier option, but this type of emails nowadays lead to low engagement rates and missed opportunities.

How ChatGPT Helps Me with Email Drip Campaigns Creation? 

1. Generating Creative Ideas

By providing ChatGPT with a brief outline of client’s campaign objectives and target audience, I get creative ideas for email topics and explore it further, without the frustration of starting from scratch.

2. Drafting Compelling Content

To generate personalised and conversion-focused copy, content creators need to match a style of the email to the persona of the audience it is aimed for. For example, emails aimed at students and their needs will look totally different from emails sent to business leaders, even if the content covers the same topic.

To tailor the style of an email I can:


a) Ask ChatGPT to write/re-write in a style I want to see the new text. For example using the prompt in ChatGPT: “rewrite this draft in a more simple style”. Or,“make it sound more professional”.  You can also go more concrete by using: “This email is for a business owner, use the style relatable to business leaders”.

b) Promote ChatGPT to copy a style of other emails and apply it to your content.
For that, find a perfect example of a text, or its fragment, that you want your future email to look like, and prompt ChatGPT to re-write your draft in the same style.

3. Customisation In One Click

ChatGPT can input recipient data such as name, location, or type of interaction with our brand into a general draft (or multiple email copies) according to your provided instructions. It will free up your time from scanning and customising the whole email body and re-writing multiple drafts.

4. Support in A/B Testing

Experimenting with variations of email subject lines, body content, and calls-to-action becomes effortless with ChatGPT. It eliminates the cognitive load of crafting each example individually, allowing you to simply choose from the provided options or make slight edits as needed.

5. Quality Assurance

ChatGPT helps me to ensure that an email content is clear, concise, and grammatically correct. Use a “correct spelling” prompt to ChatGPT to catch typos and awkward phrasings, or prompt it to “improve the style” to enhance the overall quality of the message.

My Final Thoughts 

When you first start integrating ChatGPT into your writing, there’s a bit of a learning curve as you familiarise yourself with the tool and remember useful commands. However, before long, you’ll develop your own unique style of communication with this AI system. Familiarity will help you streamline the content creation process, enabling you to craft more personalised messages that resonate with your audience – in a more efficient way. Ultimately, this can lead to higher conversion rates for your clients.

It is important to remember that generative AI, like ChatGPT, relies on the content available to it. This means that the text it produces is based on the examples it has been trained on and the requests you make to it. I’ve found that it tends to follow certain patterns when generating text, which can be quite predictive. Pure AI-generated texts lack the human touch and emotional depth that comes from genuine human writing, therefore I believe that ChatGPT can be used only as a supportive tool that enhances content creative work, but not as an independent writer. At least within the foreseeable perspective….
